RADIO HISTORY
"Voting for our lives": The first radio appearanceby the band BETTY was a
Public Service Announcement for Washington DC's biggest station to get women
out and voting. It was a Holly Near's "Singing for our lives", with new
words.

NPR: After two tremendously successful appearances on National Public
Radio's "Weekend Edition", hosted by Scott Simon, the band was offered the
position of Holiday Commentators. BETTY wrote and performed songs for
various holidays and chatted with Scott. The most popular of those episodes
was The Holiday Show, produced by Elizabeth and guest starring Mary Chapin
Carpenter, Teresa Trull and the Indigo Girls. The following year, BETTY wrote
and performed "The Christmas Miracle", a take off on O. Henry's classic Xmas
tale.
Howard Stern: Before BETTY was BETTY, the three women appeared on The Howard
Stern Show - then based in Washington DC - as the band they'd formed with
Wally Pfister, Wally & the Beavers. They were fiercely feminist and Howard
loved being dominated by the trio.
